Silfab Solar Expands Solar Panel Production Capacity

State support helps secure expansion of major solar module manufacturer at growing Bellingham waterfront center for clean energy research and innovation.

Silfab Solar, a North American manufacturer of solar panels, will expand its domestic manufacturing capacity. The Washington State Department of Commerce and Port of Bellingham announced that the company is expanding its current operations on the Bellingham waterfront. The facility will receive a $4 million investment to expand the high-efficiency panel output capacity.

The location itself is noteworthy as a developing hub for clean energy research, innovation and manufacturing. Current partners include the Western Washington University Institute for Energy Studies, offering the first degree in energy studies in the state. A $60 million environmental clean up was followed by the addition of a clean energy driven district heating and cooling system.

Silfab Solar Expands Washington Solar Panel Manufacturing Capacity

Silfab’s production capacity out of the Washington plant will reach 400 MW annually, making the company the fifth largest solar panel manufacturer in the United States. Silfab is also contracted with the University of Washington Clean Energy Test Beds for testing of its new U.S.-made products to be exported around the world.

An estimated 20 to 40 jobs will be added to the facility.
